Perhaps build rules could be (almost) arbitrary objects, and handlers could be registeredto resolve them. Or, taking it a different direction, more smarts could be put into build rules,which would essentially be functions that calculate the latest version of a target,explicitly asking the builder to build any prerequisites.The builder would only be acting as a cache.
